The House

Something worth carrying

Sāpiën started with a habit: underlining the same sentence in book after book.

Some lines you read once and keep for good. They come back years later, in the middle of an ordinary afternoon, and they still hold. We wanted to put them somewhere other than a notebook.

So every piece takes one line and one pattern. The pattern comes first — old tilework, a woven carpet, a page of stamps — flattened and cut down until it fits across a back. Then the line goes with it.

Nothing here is decoration. If a piece has nothing to say, we don't make it.

Craft

Made to order, in Europe

We print in Europe, one piece at a time, only once someone has ordered it — so there is no warehouse full of guesses and nothing left over in January. The blanks are AS Colour: 240 gsm carded cotton for the tees, garment-dyed so the colour pools dark in the creases and washes light at the edges.

The light

Photographed in daylight

No studio, no seamless backdrop. Stone, whitewash, late sun, and someone actually wearing the thing. If a piece doesn't hold up in that light, it doesn't ship.
